Happy New Year SLDS Staff Family,
Soon we will be returning to our happy place, St. Luke’s Day School! Some things will be different, yet most importantly we have a purpose and a mission every day when we walk into our amazing campus! You are a part of God’s plan to love your neighbors in a very concrete way as we play and learn together every day. Please join me in welcoming one brand new and one returning staff member. Kristalyn Jones is joining the teaching team in BLP 3s EW105. She comes to us with experience in early childhood settings and is working on an ECE degree at U of H Clearlake. Welcome back to our former 3s Team Leader, Chris Harris! She is joining Ms. King in M-W 3s ES103 following Ms. Waite’s move to Virginia. We are so grateful to have Ms. Harris back at SLDS! We have a few other re-assignments to note. Ms. Cho is now joining the Penguins teaching team in EW109, Ms. M. Jones is now joining the Bunnies teaching team in EW122, and Ms. Taylor is now joining the Campus Champ team.
By now, I hope you have carefully read my December 31 email to our SLDS families. Omicron has hit our greater community hard and our school is no exception. We are receiving multiple reports from families and staff daily. Currently six teachers have reported testing positive and are recovering. Please let us know as soon as possible if you have had a case over the holidays, so Mrs. Frazier can confirm your return to school plan.
Here are some important protocols to remember:
- Mask wearing is serious. This C-19 variant spreads fast as we witnessed in classrooms before Christmas. Teachers must always wear masks properly while in the classroom with a snug fit and over the nose. New until further notice: Take water, snack, lunch, and mask rest breaks outside of your classroom. To fight the spread of Omicron, this must be strictly enforced. Make sure your mask is comfortable and fits well. Please, let us know if you need help before we must take disciplinary action.
- All protocols must be followed by staff and families. Do not allow parents to remain in our hallways unmasked or to come inside your classrooms. Speak with kindness and firmness. For example, “We are doing our best to stop the spread of Omicron, please put on your mask. You forgot it – that’s ok – I have one right here for you.” Mrs. McIntyre and Mrs. Frazier will deliver a set of back-up masks to your classrooms on January 4.
- Carefully monitor illness. Please question parents about any sign of illness you observe as children arrive for the day and call for admin to help assess if needed. Notify Ms. Frazier right away if a child develops symptoms during the day. No child should be sent home without an administrator’s knowledge.
- Stay aware of your proximity to your students. Take time to wash your hands after all close contact. Always be careful about touching your eyes and nose as you go about your day. Remember that when we started protective practice teachers kept a change of clothes, particularity an extra shirt, at school. That remains a good idea, in case a child’s bodily fluids get on your clothing while you are caring for your sweet little ones.
Additionally, we will be contacting Luke’s Place families today, January 3, to let them know that we are discontinuing car line drop off and pick up until further notice. All staff will be copied on this communication. Luke’s Place teachers please be sure to read it carefully.
Finally, one more challenge. There has been a ransomware attack at St. Luke’s that has significantly disabled many of our Information Technology systems. Currently Wi-Fi and internet are compromised as well as the secure access doors at AC, Edloe, Large OC, and the Johnson breezeway. The good news is that it did not affect any of our financial accounting systems. There is a forensic cyber security group currently investigating and making headway in restoring our systems.. The kiosks are down. If you are unable to check in and out with your phone, Ms. Green will have a sheet for you to sign in/out in the Aux office. Mrs. Frazier is working closely with the SL facility team for temporary solutions. Watch for further instructions as we get more information.
AND some good news! We are ordering Zoe’s boxed lunches for our wonderful staff tomorrow, Jan. 4! They will be outside the Children’s Chapel for pick up at 12noon.
Well, there you go! A few challenges, and yet, as I said before, it is still our happy place! Looking forward to seeing all of you soon.
Take good care,
DW
