Evening Courses for Educators

The Ella Hawes Institute for Early Childhood Educators evening courses will begin in the spring of 2019.

Child Development Associate (CDA) Training Center

Primary Instructor: Debbie Weymouth

Administrator: Anne McIntyre

Come play, learn, and prepare for the CDA with our EHI experienced team! This course enables students to complete the educational requirements and the Professional Portfolio required by the Council for Professional Recognition while growing in knowledge and skill as early childhood education professionals!

The EHI course consists of 10 study modules.  Requirements of each module include seminar attendance and completion of study assignments. This course is designed for inquisitive, self-motivated,  students. Upon successful completion of the program participants will acquire the 120 clock hours of required training and often students exceed that target!

Areas of study are in agreement with the national standards used to evaluate the educator’s performance with children and their families during the CDA assessment process. Topics include ECE professionalism; areas of child development such as physical, social/emotional, creativity, and brain/cognitive function; behavior guidance; safe and healthy learning environments; effective communication; partnering with families; and program management.

In addition to the guidance of our primary instructor, our program administrator provides aid in portfolio set-up, application process, and PD Specialist selection. We stick with our students, offering the additional support applicants may need.
