Volunteer Background Checks

We have many volunteer opportunities at St. Luke’s Day School! If you completed a background check after January 2026, it is valid for the 2026-2027 school year.

In order to volunteer with children in the classroom or attend class party, you must complete a Volunteer Background Check. The form is linked below and you will follow a few simple steps.

1. Submit your request
2. Once your request is received, we will submit your information and you will receive an email from Backgroundchecks.com, sent on behalf of the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, who helps facilitate our volunteer screenings.
*The Day School office will submit Volunteer Background Check requests on Monday of each week. Please plan accordingly before an event.
3. Follow the link in the email to fill out your personal information.
4. You’ll get a confirmation email once you submit the background check and we will receive the finalized report.
5. Once approved, you will be contacted by Kiara Langford, the Program Coordinator for Children’s Ministries at SLUMC.
6. Your child’s teacher will have a list of all approved parent volunteers for their classroom.

All Background Checks are valid for one year and must be renewed annually.

Important Note: BackgroundChecks.com is the system used to process Safe Sanctuary background checks for all volunteers. Because the platform is designed for employers, some wording may sound employment-related. This is simply standard system language and does not change your role as a volunteer. You may also see references to consumer reports or credit checks, but St. Luke’s does not and will never conduct credit checks on volunteers. We only request a criminal background check for ministry safety.

SLUMC will conduct a criminal records check on all background check applicants.

Authorization and Request for Criminal Records Check

I hereby authorize St. Luke’s Methodist Church to request the relevant police/sheriff’s department to release information regarding any record charges or convictions contained in its files, or in any criminal file maintained on me, whether said file is local, state or national file, and including but not limited to accusations and convictions for crimes committed against minors, to the fullest extent permitted by state and federal law. I do release said police/sheriff’s department from all liability that may result any such disclosure made in response to this request.
