Outdoor Classrooms
At St. Luke’s Day School, we believe playing is learning, and our playgrounds are our classrooms! An extension of our indoor classrooms, our outdoor classrooms are beautiful spaces certified by Nature Explore, and designed to provide our children with rich opportunities for discovery and connection with nature.
Our age-level outdoor spaces offer traditional big body equipment to support our children’s physical development through climbing, crawling, swinging, and pedaling. And, uniquely, we have dedicated activity areas where they can also make a mud pie, build a tall block tower, paint a picture, grow their own vegetables, play musical instruments, learn about the life cycle of a butterfly, and curiously examine the wonder of God’s amazing creation. These activities are supported by STEAM curriculum and are foundational to the development of important skills including cooperation, negotiation, collaboration, and problem solving.
We believe there is no greater teacher than the natural world and we delight in helping our children learn through play in the beautiful, miraculous, great outdoors!

Gram's House
Gram’s House is a cozy backyard retreat for our Infants and Toddlers. A beloved playhouse that was built by our community serves as a special spot for dramatic play, pretend adventures, and nature-inspired fun.
Infants & Toddlers
Our young toddlers can explore their very own sensory garden, soft grassy areas, sand play area, and natural loose parts designed just for them. You can also find push cars, balls, slides, and more as they play and learn outdoors!
Two Year Olds
Our Two Year Olds have their very own curated Outdoor Classroom! Children can climb, dig, and imagine in gardens filled with tall grasses, stumps, and flowers. Gathering spots encourage them to build friendships and explore the natural world side by side. Swings and tricycles help build strong muscles and gross motor skills!
Garden Space
The Garden Space is offered to our Threes, Pre-K, and TK classes. Imagine this space as taking one of our indoor classrooms and placing it outside, using nature to support and inspire our play and exploration. Each class visits this space once a week as part of their outdoor time. Weekly lessons are planned and facilitated by our STEAM Specialist. She guides the children through gardening, outdoor art, investigation, water play and more.
Big Outdoor Classroom
The Big Outdoor Classroom is designed for extended, imaginative play for our Threes, Pre-K, and TK children. A giant block deck, art features, logs and rocks, trikes, scooters, and wide-open gathering areas invite children to connect through nature.
